I have  been teaching high school for more than 29 years and currently coordinate the Secondary Education Academy at Central Montco Technical High School in Plymouth Meeting, PA. Teacher Academy is a two-year dual enrollment program for high school students interested in education careers. Prior to coordinating the SEA Program, I taught English, Art, Graphic Arts & Creative Writing.

I am also a professor of Education and Literacy and currently teach at the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Education, in the Literacy Studies Department.

In SEA, I use the arts as both a research methodology and classroom pedagogy. My research explores how pre-service and practicing teachers use the arts as a method of inquiry into teaching and learning. In my work, I argue for a more expansive approach in research that recognizes art making as research methodology and a powerful way to represent research findings. For this work, I received the American Education Research Association (AERA) Teacher as Researcher Award in 2015 and was named a Practitioner Researcher 2018-19 Cadre Honoree by the International Literacy Association.
